‘And With Your Spirit’: Preparing for the New Roman Missal

10.25.11

(This Blog was written by Lisa Garcia and can be found at www.catholicyouthministry.com)

“The Lord be with you…”
“And with your spirit.”

Sound strange? Very soon, it will be our normal response in Mass. As many of you know, change is coming. The 3rd edition of the Roman Missal has been approved, and first use of the new text will happen on november 27, 2011 (the first Sunday of Advent). The prayers and responses of our Mass will change for the first time in over 40 years. Among other things, the revised edition of the Roman Missal contains prayers for the observances of recently canonized saints, additional prefaces for the eucharistic prayers, additional Votive Masses, Masses and prayers for Various needs and intentions, and some updated and revised rubrics (instructions) for the celebration of the Mass. The english translation of the Roman Missal will also include updated translations of existing prayers, including some of the well–known responses and acclamations of the people.

Tonight’s Life Night focused on God’s power to heal and cure through the Sacraments of Healing (Reconciliation & Anointing).  God desires to make His children whole, both spiritually and physically. In a way, we are the paralyzed man in the Gospel of Mark (Mark 2: 1-12) seeking healing from Jesus.

Don’t forget to make it a point to go to Confession this week. We have confessions 30 minutes before each Mass. Click here for the Mass Schedule.

Parenta l Notice

Tonight’s Life Night focused on the power of the Sacraments of Healing and God’s desire to heal us, both physically and spiritually. God is not only our loving Father but also the Divine Physician that desires to heal our brokenness and make us whole.

Here are a few discussion questions that you and your teenager can talk about:

1. Why is spiritual healing more important than physical healing?

2. How did the Paralyzed Man experience both kinds of healing?

Thursday night I got to put Cecilia to bed; this is a rare opportunity for me as she is totally a momma’s girl and always wants mom to put her to sleep. I had to be sneaky in going about getting this opportunity. After we bathed her, I quickly got her dressed and began looking for her sacred blanket – she won’t sleep without it. We found her blanket and I quickly told to give mommy night time kisses, to which she cried “mommy night-night!” I distracted her by reminding her about her baby doll. This is just what I needed to sneak her away from mom and be able to rock her and sing her to sleep. I found myself singing the same songs over and over – longing to rest and hold my little princess.

The past few months have been busy, to say the least. Two months ago we hosted RISE – a weeklong work retreat. This year it was attended 110 high school teens from around our Diocese. After the week was over, we organized several crews to help complete the work that was left undone. This took many hours and many volunteers. And this volunteer work was in addition to everything we had to do in our normal live (work, family, school, etc.).

Alpha and Omega Wrap-Up

posted by johnray | life nights, website

Tonight we looked at the 3 Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist)! These Sacraments give us the grace to fully know Christ and live out our faith! We ended the night in Eucharistic Adoration. Spending time with the greatest lover the world has ever known!

The Eucharist is the “sacrament of sacraments.” Every other sacrament points to and flows from the Eucharist!

Parents:
Take a few minutes this week to discuss these sacraments with your teen(s) and why you as their parent wanted them to be baptized, why you chose their godparents and the importance of faith in their lives. Here are a few discussion questions to help:
1. (If confirmed) What does it mean to you to be a full member of the Church?
2. (If not confirmed) Are you looking forward to your Confirmation? Why or Why not? How can your family help you prepare?
3. What are some ways we as a family can be more active members of our faith community?

This Sunday’s Life Night is all about Initiation - the Sacraments of Initiation that is.
