WHAT IS A CORE MEMBER
Everyone has a baptismal call to serve. A CORE Member is an adult who is responding to his or her baptismal call to serve in youth ministry. As a CORE Member, you will be an important role model in teenagers’ lives. Your approach to ministry should be rooted in service, commitment, and dedication to the Church and the teenagers you serve.

CORE Members are one of the most vital parts of the LIFE TEEN Program. First and foremost, CORE Members are role models to all of our teens. We know that how you live and act makes a strong impression of teens. The CORE Members work under the supervision of the youth ministry staff for the purpose of assisting in the fulfillment of the LIFE TEEN mission.

CORE COMMANDMENTS

When working with teens, always remember the following:

1. Thou must be a person of prayer, a child of God.
2. Thou must walk in joy, faith, and truth.
3. Thou must remain positive, affirming and humble.
4. Thou must offer respect before thou expect it.
5. Thou must never forget why thou art there.
6. Thou must not remain separate, thou must sit amongst the teens.
7. Thou must participate, and step out of thy comfort zone.
8. Thou must “befriend” the teens, without being “their friend.”
9. Thou must never talk until thou hast listen.
10.Thou must at all times, exude faith and trust in the leadership.

CORE COMMITMENTS
As a CORE member I will…

…exhibit the highest Christian ethical standards and personal integrity.

…conduct myself in a manner that is consistent with the discipline and teachings of the Catholic Church.

…avoid taking unfair advantage of the power present in the youth ministry role.

…share concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with my pastor, their principal, or the bishop.

…report any suspected abuse or neglect of a minor to the youth minister.

…accept my personal responsibility to protect teens from all forms of abuse and exploitation.

At St. Peter’s our core committ themselves to share their faith with the teens of our parish.

Our core members pray for and journey with the teens of the parish. Together, in the name of Jesus Christ, we allow our teens to come to a safe place where they can freely learn about, grow in, and share their faith.
