R.O.C. [pronounced: rock], noun – Rite of Confirmation

At St. Peter’s in Carencro, once a high school teen reaches their Junior year, they enter the final stage of their journey toward Confirmation. In the ROC, candidates (Juniors) come with their sponsors to 5 luncheons a semester. At these luncheons, they listen to talks about faith issues, are served lunch and discuss the talk with their sponsor. In addition to the luncheons, they are also required to attend 2 LIFE Nights per semester. Then, in the summer between their Junior and Senior year, each candidate comes in for a Confirmation Interview so we can see exactly how prepared they are for the great Sacrament they are about to receive. Right before school starts their Senior year, they must attend a retreat. The retreat fulfills their requirements for Confirmation.

“Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit…in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of the Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church, as well as the parish community.”
